Description: 

Compound leaves, three leaflets, shiny dark green to 5" long. Flowers in terminal clusters in spring, not very conspicuous. Pendulous seed clusters, seeds encased in thin circular winged disc.

History: 

Native to most of the US, eastern Canada and Mexico.

Published in Sp. Pl. 1: 118 in 1753. Linnaeus cites Pluk. alm. 159 as does Catesby in his Natural History Volume II plate 83.
