Deep blue flowers, with black calyces, from the middle of summer until autumn. Flowers on spikes to 10" long. Reduce height by cutting back stems in late spring. Needs winter mulch in cooler zones. Deer resistant. Attracts butterflies.
I purchased a 1-gallon plant at Evergreen in October 2011 and planted it in the Big Trees and Birds garden. It died over the winter 2013. In spring 2013 I purchased another from Nurseries Caroliniana and planted it in the Berm On the Border and once again I lost it in the winter.
