Seeds from 30,000 years ago have been germinated in a lab in Russia. This is the oldest plant material to be used to grow new plants. The seeds had been stored in permafrost by squirrels in Siberia. The petals of the new plant are a slightly different shape from those of plants grown from today's seed. See Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
