Description: 

Alternate oval leaves to 4" long, leathery, slightly yellow-green. Stems can be spiny. Small green-yellow flowers in summer followed by blue-black berries in clusters. Climbs with tendrils. Likes wet forest sites. Can be a nuisance.

History: 

Published in Sp. Pl. 2: 1030 in 1753. Reference is made to Catesby's Natural History Volume I Plate 15.

Native to central and southern US and the Caribbean.
