Description: 

Storage organ is a corm not a bulb. Leaves linear with a sharp point, forming a fan around the flower stem. Flowers have 6 tepals, similar size and shape, white to purple-red, in clusters on the main stem.

History: 

Published in Ann. Bot. (König & Sims) 1: 225 in 1804.

Synonyms: Ixia aristata var. atropurpurea Andrews published in Bot. Repos. 2: 87 in 1800., Ixia holosericea Jacq. published in Pl. Rar. Hort. Schoenbr. 1: 9 t. 17 in 1797.

Native to South Africa. Cultivated at Kew since 1758.
