Description: 

Compact, dwarf form with smaller, rounder leaves. Dirr notes that the true form is only 12" tall and wide but the one in cultivation is more like 30".

History: 

Published in Bot. Mag. (Tokyo) 23: 166 in 1909.

Native to Russia, Japan, and Canada.

PlantList shows the name as a synonym of S. beauverdiana C.K.Schneid. but ARS-GRIN considers it an accepted name and Hillier and Dirr refer to it as such.
