Family: Taxodiaceae

Genus: Taxodium

Parent: Taxodium distichum var. imbricarium

Category: Tree - Deciduous

Zones: 5 to 9 possibly less cold hardy than the species

Size: To 60' tall and 8' wide

Growth Rate: Moderate

Exposure: Sun, Filtered Sun, Part Shade

Description:

A columnar form, almost as tall as the species but much narrower. Very upright branchlets with fine textured foliage. Reasonably drought tolerant but also thrives in wet sites.

History:

Introduced by Earl Cully (Jacksonville, IL).

My Experience:

I purchased a tall 3-gallon in winter 2010 and planted it in early spring on the corner of the property in the Gumball Border Garden. At the time of purchase there was an upward growing branch that competed with the central leader. I removed it. The tree gained perhaps 18" in height over the first summer and the trunk became much sturdier. Gained at least 2 more feet in summer 2011. It has a very rich brown autumn color.
