Description: 

A tree in its natural habitat but normally a shrub in cultivation. Prefers a moist well-drained soil. Needs shade in hotter climates.

Cultivars: 

'Aurescens' - Gold Flush - low-growing to 3' tall and wide, yellow new growth.

History: 

Published in Abh. Math.-Phys. Cl. Königl. Bayer. Akad. Wiss. 4(2): 230 in 1846. Native to Japan, Korea, China. Introduced in 1855 by Robert Fortune.

'Cuspidata' = having a sharp or stiff point.
