Description: 

Flowers in spring followed by black fruit. Well-drained moist, acidic soil preferred. Sun to light shade.

History: 

Published in Sp. Pl. 1: 351 in 1753.

Native to Iran, Turkey, Bulgaria and the Caucasus.

Also published in Bot. Repos. 1: 30 in 1798: having been introduced to us first by Mr. F. Masson about the year 1786.
