Description: 

Vase shape with low branches, become more ascending with age. Leaves alternate, rough texture, to 5" long, serrated. Orange to red-purple autumn color. Prefers moist, well-drained soil.

Cultivars: 

'JFS-KW1' - City Sprite™ - PP#20996 - compact, semi-dwarf habit with short internodes. Selected from seedlings at a nursery in Canby, Oregon by Keith S. Warren. 24' tall and 18' wide.

History: 

Published in Bot. Mag. (Tokyo) 17: 13 in 1903.

Basionym Corchorus serratus Thunb.

Native to China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and the Kurile Islands.

Introduced in 1861.

RHS Award of Garden Merit in 2002.
